For anyone who has purchased a brand new Kia vehicle, it is
important that they get familiar with the automobile. Even though they might
know how to drive they should pay attention to how their new Kia vehicle would
be ready to be driver and how to get it started.
IGNITION SWITCH
INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM
Shift the selector of the Kia vehicle lever to the P (Park)
position. Turn the ignition switch slightly in the ON direction. Turn the
ignition switch to the LOCK position. Remove the key if it is inserted in
the ignition switch of the Kia vehicle. If the ignition switch is turned to the
LOCK position, the selector lever cannot be moved from the P (Park) position. The
shift selector lever of the Kia vehicle can be moved if the ignition switch is
in the ON position and the foot brake pedal is depressed. There is an OFF
position between the LOCK and ACC positions. The OFF position is indicated by a
“1” on the key cylinder. When the ignition is in the OFF position, the steering
wheel is not locked.
Apply the parking brake on the Kia automobile. Move the
shift selector lever to P (Park) or N (Neutral). P (Park) is recommended. The
starter is designed not to operate unless the clutch pedal is fully de-
pressed.
Return the ignition switch in the Kia vehicle to the LOCK
position. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC position. When the buzzer of the
Kia automobile beeps 4 times continuously, check for the ignition switch is returned
to the LOCK position, the mechanical key is not inserted into the ignition
switch. The inside warning buzzer stops when one of the following is performed:
Return the ignition switch of the Kia
car to the LOCK position.
Remove the Kia car mechanical key from the ignition switch.
Close the Kia car doors.
Do not depress the accelerator pedal while shifting from P
(Park) or N (Neutral) to R (Reverse), D (Drive) or L (Low). Always depress the
brake pedal until shifting is completed. Failure to do so could cause you to
lose control and have an accident with the Kia automobile. Cold engine idle
speed is high, so use caution when shifting into a forward or reverse gear
before the engine has warmed up. Do not down shift the Kia automobile abruptly
on slippery roads. This may cause a loss of control. Never shift to P (Park) or
R (Reverse) while the Kia vehicle is in motion. This could cause the Kia
vehicle to get into an accident.
CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT)
The CVT in your Kia vehicle is electronically controlled to
produce maximum power and smooth operation. The shift selector lever cannot be
moved out of P (Park) and into any of the other gear positions if the ignition
key is turned to the LOCK, OFF or ACC position or if the key is removed.
Thus once the driver gets to understand the starting up
functions of the Kia vehicle, he could get the car ready properly and could
drive the car more safely.
