Ok, first things first: what ARE hybrid cars? You are
clearly not amongst those keen to save the environment, but nevertheless, you
have a right to know! Hybrids are cars that run on dual power options. Here is
all you need to know about them:
1. Full Form
Hybrid is the shortened version of Hybrid Electric Vehicle
(HEV). It is a term used for vehicles that function on at least two sources of
engine power.
2. Power Sources
Usually, a hybrid car will have an electric source of power
fitted to it. In India, you also find CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) becoming a
fairly popular medium of alternate power provider. A driver can switch between
the two options in order to save fuel and optimize the alternate source of
power.
3. Recharge Functionality
A hybrid car can be recharged on the move. While the
alternate power option is in use, the electric charger gets recharged.
4. Better Mileage
Since you use alternate sources of power, fuel consumption
comes down drastically. This gives a much better mileage to the car.
5. Lower Emissions
Since the fuel used is being alternated with electric power,
the rate of emissions is also hugely reduced in a hybrid vehicle.
6. Environment-Friendly
If you want to make the world a cleaner and less-polluted
place to live, a hybrid car is the right buy for you.
7. Tyres
The tyres of hybrid cars are narrower than their regular
counterparts. They are also stiffer and have less drag. This gives them better
resistance and enhances their performance on the road.
8. Technologically Advanced
In order to reduce emissions and enable higher efficiency,
the engines of hybrid cars are smaller and technologically more advanced.
Going green has taken a different meaning with vehicles
enabled with fuel-saving capabilities. With technological advancements taking
place around us at such rapid speed, we can easily make the world a better
place to live in, can’t we?
